My Involvement
Monumental Kids Movement
The Monumental Kids Movement was a volunteer opportunity where I had the privilege of training with elementary kids in preparation for a 5k at the monumental marathon. While doing this I was able to learn more about training and how to motivate individuals. I also realized how much the kids looked up to me and it was overall a rewarding experience.

IUPUI INShape Personal Training
- INShape is an opportunity for IUPUI Exercise Science students to gain experience personal training a client for 8 weeks. During this experience I was able to improve coaching skills such as, motivating, cueing, and adaptability.
- At the end of the program my client had decreased his body fat percentage by 2% and only lost 2 pounds. This tells me that he put on some muscle through our sessions. This increased my self confidence as a trainer. At the start of our sessions I was unsure of my ability to develop an effective routine that met the time constraints. It was fulfilling to be able to see my clients progress and know I had a hand in that.
Six Word Reflection

-
Engaging- Working one on one with a client was a great way to apply knowledge from the classroom and promote further learning
-
Developmental- Through training a client I was able to further develop skills.
-
Applicable- The skills I have developed through INShape will serve me well in my future as a Physical Therapist.
-
Educational- I learned how to become a better trainer/coach.
-
Enjoyable- Most importantly I had a lot of fun working with my client and getting to know them.
